Odisha DGP Stresses On Boosting Coastal Security
Cuttack: Director General of Police (DGP) BK Sharma held a video conferencing with the SPs of seven coastal districts to review maritime security in Odisha.
The review came a day ahead of a scheduled meeting between the Union cabinet secretary and state police chiefs on strengthening coastal security on Thursday.
During the review on Wednesday, the DGP appraised the performance of 18 marine police stations in Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Ganjam and Berhampur police districts.
The meeting decided to take the following measures:
—The Range IG, DIG and SPs shall visit the marine police stations at least once every month and ensure their proper functioning.
—The SPs shall inspect the marine police stations on a regular basis and submit the inspection note to the state police headquarters.
—The SPs shall ask the IICs of the marine police stations to make extensive sea patrolling in their respective jurisdictions.
—The technical staff deployed at the marine police stations shall be utilised properly and effectively.
—The SPs shall ensure posting of adequate manpower, especially constables and home guards, at marine police stations.
—The SPs shall submit a detailed proposal to the IG (Modernisation) relating to the construction of office building, staff quarters and other infrastructure development.
The Additional DG, Coastal Security and other senior officers also attended the video conference.
