CM orders judicial probe into Kunduli gang rape case

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday ordered a judicial probe into the Kunduli gang rape case.

The probe will be conducted by a District Judge in accordance with the Commission of Inquiry Act, 1952, alongside the Crime Branch investigation, a CMO press release said.

On Tuesday, Human Rights Protection Cell (HRPC) ADG Mahendra Pratap had claimed that the medical experts found no proof of gang rape after examining the girl. The medical report comprised statements of doctors treating her at Kunduli, Jeypore, and MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.

The Class-IX student was allegedly gang raped by four men in uniform in a forest area near Kunduli village while she was returning home on October 10. The incident had triggered state-wide outrage forcing police to declare it as a ‘Red-flag’ case.

A case under Sections 376 (D) and 377 of IPC and Section 6 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act had been registered.
