UVs Hold The Fort For Maruti As Sales Plunge By 27% In September

Country’s largest car marker Maruti Suzuki is still facing the heat of the slowdown in automobile sales. Though the numbers are slightly better than August, it witnessed a 27.1 per cent decline to that of the corresponding period last year.

The company sold 110,454 units in September 2019 as against 151,512 units during the same month in 2018.

The total sale, including commercial vehicle and other OEMs (Toyota Glanza), was 115,452 in September 2019. It was 153,550 in September 2018.

Exports stood at 7,188 units, a 17.8 per cent decline compared to September 2018.

Alto, S-Presso, Old WagonR sales stood at 20,085 units as against 34,971 units the previous year.

In the compact segment, New WagonR, Celerio, Ignis, Swift, Baleno, and Dzire sales stood at 57,179 units, a decline of 22 per cent. Mid size Ciaz saw a 72 per cent fall.

However, utility vehicles (UV) were almost not harmed with just 0.5 per cent reduction in sales. The Gypsy, Ertiga, XL6, Vitara Brezza, and S-Cross sales stood at 21,526 units.

Among vans, the Eeco has seen a drop of 32 per cent with 9,949 units sold.

Maruti has also sold 2,952 of Glanza to Toyota, making it the highest ever for the cross badged product till now.
