Odisha MP Anubhav Mohanty’s Public Spat Ends In Police Case

Cuttack: Biju Chhatra Janata Dal (BCJD) vice president Manjeet Das was booked for allegedly misbehaving with Kendrapara MP and actor Anubhav Mohanty on Tuesday.

Anubhav’s personal security officer (PSO) had lodged a written complaint with Purighat police on Monday night, accusing Das of threatening the MP. A case has been registered against him under Sections 341 (wrongful restrain), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 294 (obscene acts or words in public), 307 (attempt to murder) and 379 (theft) of Indian penal Code (IPC).

Personal Dispute Spills On Social Media

On Monday, the MP took to Twitter to accuse Das, who also happens to be his neighbour at Nandi Sahi in Cuttack, of abusing him the previous night. He alleged that Das was creating a ruckus in front of his house in a drunken state and hurled abuses at him when he tried to intervene.

Tagging the Commissionerate Police, Anubhav tweeted, “Sir, there has been regular & serious allegations against a particular guy #ManjeetDas who is unfortunately my neighbour. I’m standing in front of my house & trying my best to contact concerned PS but no action yet. Please help.”

Police ‘Inaction’

The MP had also accused the Purighat IIC of misbehaving with him. “It really hurts the way they are interconnected,” he tweeted.

Alleging police inaction, the MP had also posted a video of the incident on social media.

“Manjeet Das and his associates beat me up. Though police reached the spot, they didn’t take any action against him. When Anubhav Mohanty intervened in the matter, Manjeet abused him,” a youth said in a video posted by the Parliamentarian on Twitter.

Counter Allegation

The BCJD vice-president, on the other hand, alleged that Anubhav mentally harassed and misbehaved with him when he asked him not to park vehicle at his place.

Describing the incident, he said, “I was trying to pacify two local youths who were fighting over some issue when the MP reached the spot and started abusing. He called me a criminal and anti-social.”

Das challenged the MP to prove that he was ever involved in any anti-social activity.

He further said that Anubhav was still immature in politics. “I won’t file any counter case against him as it will spoil the party’s image,” he added.
