Raipur: In an effort to address concerns over fake or irregular qualifications, the Chhattisgarh government has launched a portal that will enable students, employers and other institutions to verify degrees and academic records issued by private universities in the state.
The portal, cgpurc.cgstate.gov.in, a first-of-its-kind initiative, has been developed by the Chhattisgarh Private Universities Regulatory Commission (CGPURC).
The portal, launched by Governor Ramen Deka at Lok Bhavan, has academic records of all 21 private universities in Chhattisgarh.
The portal has been designed in a way so that it can provide a digital trail of a student’s academic journey, from admission to issuance of a degree.
This will help flag irregularities like degrees that don’t have a corresponding admission record or qualifications linked to backdated entries.
The portal will also provide information on courses offered by private universities, including their recognition and approval status. Students can use the information to check whether a university and the course they are considering are operating validly before taking admission.
Information on university fees, officials, committees and their members, PhD research guides are also available at a fingertip.
The portal will help employers by cutting down on the need to contact universities individually to establish whether a candidate’s qualification is genuine. Digital records stored in the website will allow them to verify the degree and academic record associated with it.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said the digital records will provide students accurate information, and strengthening transparency and accountability in higher education.
