Aahar Centres To Reopen In Cuttack Tomorrow

Bhubaneswar/Cuttack: Aahar centres, which implement the cheap meal scheme of the Odisha government, will be reopened in Cuttack from Monday.

The centres were shut after the kitchen sheds were damaged in Cyclone Fani.

Similarly, 11 such centres in Bhubaneswar and the kitchen near Nakhara, on the outskirts of the city, will resume services from Wednesday.  The decision was made following several rounds of meetings regarding the extent of the damages to the central kitchen at Bamphakuda near Nakhara and the Aahar centres under Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation.

The civic body has also decided to open 200 ‘jal seva sibir’ or temporary water kiosks across the Odisha capital. The BMC will be providing an assistance of Rs 5,000 to all agencies concerned for reopening those damaged during severe cyclonic storm on May 3.

Interestingly, Bhubaneswar Auto Mahasangh, women self-help groups (SHGs), Scouts and Guides, Satyasai Sangathan and different civil society organisations of the city have promised to open and run the kiosks in the city.
