New Delhi: Indian Railways on Tuesday made it mandatory for passengers availing the special AC trains to install the government’s Aarogya Setu app.
“Indian Railways is going to start few passenger train services. It is mandatory for passengers to download Aarogya Setu app in their mobile phones, before commencing their journey,” Railways tweeted.
On Monday, Railways had only “advised” the passengers of the special trains that started operating on Tuesday to install the app.
Sources said it was made mandatory after a Union Home Ministry missive, following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with chief ministers on Monday.
Passengers, who do not have the app installed on their mobile phones, might be asked to do so after their arrival at the station, they added.

However, there is no clarity yet on if and how the app will be enforced as the Supreme Court has directed that making it mandatory is illegal, officials said.
