Bhubaneswar: The state government on Thursday accepted the resignation of former Director General of Police DGP), Abhay, as the Chairman of the Odisha Staff Selection Commission (OSSC).
Abhay had been appointed as the OSSC Chairman in April, 2022 a few months after his retirement as DGP, and his tenure was for five years.
“After careful consideration of the representation dated 19.09.2025 of Shri Abhay, Government have been pleased to accept the resignation of Shri Abhay, Chairman, Odisha Staff Selection Commission with immediate effect,” a notification issued by the General Administration and Public Grievance Department said.
The state government has also appointed Sudhakar Burgi, a retired IAS officer and a member of the OSSC, to function as the chairman of the commission.
As per another official notification, Burgi has been allowed to act as the Chairman of the OSSC in addition to his own duties until further orders.
It may be noted that the Orissa High Court was hearing a dispute raised over the continuation of Abhay as OSSC Chairman on the ground that his age was more than 62 years.
A petitioner had filed a PIL stating that the chairman of OSSC is appointed either for a tenure of five years or until attaining the age of 62 years, whichever is earlier.
