New Delhi: A second-year Delhi University student was the target of an acid attack near Lakshmibai College, in northwest Delhi’s Ashok Vihar area, on Sunday.
According to police, the incident took place around 10 am, not very far from the college campus.
The accused, identified as her stalker Jitender, allegedly threw acid at the 20-year-old female student before fleeing the scene along with two associates.
The woman took evasive action and managed to shield her face. However, she sustained burns on both hands.
The student was rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital for treatment. She is out of danger, and expected to be discharged soon.
The victim, a second-year non-college student, told police she had gone to Lakshmibai College for an extra class when she was attacked.
As she was walking towards the college, Jitender and his associates Ishan and Arman, arrived on a motorcycle. “Ishan handed over a bottle to Arman, who threw acid on her,” the police statement said.
The victim told investigators that Jitender had been stalking her, and a heated argument took place between them a month ago. Both the accused and the student are residents of Mukundpur, police said.
A massive manhunt is underway with Delhi Police having formed multiple to trace and arrest the suspect. Raids are being carried out at several locations to locate him.
