Active Cases Drop To Lowest-Ever 74 In Odisha As 16 Districts Turn COVID-Free
Bhubaneswar: A day after reporting one COVID case, Odisha on Sunday saw a slight rise in the daily caseload with nine persons testing positive for the virus in the last 24 hours.
According to the I & PR department, six are from quarantine and three local contacts. Three are in the age group of 0-18 years.
Here are the district-wise figures of the new cases:
1. Balasore: 1
2. Cuttack: 2
3. Khurda: 4
4. Sundargarh: 1
Besides, 1 from the state pool.
With these cases being detected from 18,879 samples, the test positivity rate (TPR) stood at 0.04 per cent.
The nice new cases and 11 recoveries in the last 24 hours have taken the active tally to 74, the lowest since the state saw an outbreak of COVID-19. A total of 16 districts – Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Sonepur, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur and Jagatsinghpur – are now free from coronavirus with nil active cases.
Notably, Odisha has been reporting new cases in single and double digits for the past several weeks amid the spike in Delhi, where the R-value, which is an indicator of how quickly the infection is spreading, has crossed over 2 ringing alarm bells. Delhi reported 1,094 new infections in the last 24 hours while 194 more people tested positive for the virus across Maharashtra, the highest in a day after 25 March.
