It’s almost certain that the 60-year-old Govinda will contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The buzz is that he is likely to be fielded from Mumbai North West.

Govinda’s first stint in politics was controversial. Having won on a Congress ticket from Mumbai North constituency in 2008, the veteran actor faced severe criticism for his prolonged absence from Parliament when it was in session. He was hardly seen in his constituency, while his film career saw a revival.

Govinda, a veteran of around 170 films, ultimately quit politics on January 20, 2008 to concentrate on his acting career.

Speculation over Govinda contemplating a second innings in politics started doing the rounds after he met the Maharashtra CM last week.

“I am joining Shiv Sena and it is a blessing of God. I thought I would not enter politics again,” Govinda said after being officially inducted into the party by Shinde.

Recalling the good relationship his parents had with Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray, Govinda said Mumbai city looks cleaner and better under Shinde’s governance.
