Bhubaneswar: The Infocity police in Odisha capital on Monday arrested actress Mousumi Nayak on the basis of a complaint lodged by writer Banasmita Pati.
According to sources, the writer had earlier moved Orissa High Court, accusing the the 39-year-old actress of extortion, harassment and attempting to tarnish her image through false allegations even after a compromise was reached between them over Rs 5.8 lakh, which the former had returned to her. She further alleged that Mousumi insulted her family in public and threatened to kill her even after she returned the money and also filed a false complaint against her with Chandaka police.
Following a court order, Infocity police registered a case under Sections 385 (putting person in fear of injury in order to commit extortion), 294 (any obscene act in any public place), 506 and 507 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC and conducted an investigation into the allegations during which Mousumi was also questioned. Later, she was arrested from her apartment at Chandaka after she returned from a shoot in Hyderabad and forwarded to court, said Assistant Commissioner of Police Ramesh Bisoyi.
“During interrogation, the accused confessed her guilt,” a police release said.
In September, Mousumi accused Banasmita of forcing her into the escort service and to invest money in stock markets. She withdrew the complaint lodged with Chandaka police later following a mutual understanding and assurance from the writer to return the money. However, the actress again moved the police accusing the writer of threatening her.
Banasmita’s advocate had then termed these allegations as baseless and intentional and had said that they would file a defamation case against her.
Notably, Mousumi has acted in several Odia, Hindi and Telugu movies.
