Kozhikode: Two popular Malayalam actresses were promoting their upcoming film ‘Saturday Night’ at different events. It was smooth going till Sania Iyappan and Grace Antony faced sexual harassment at a mall here.
A video of the incident showed both actresses trying to leave an overcrowded Hilite Mall after the programme when some people mobbed them and misbehaved.
The incident shocked and rattled both actresses, who took to the social media to share their nightmarish ordeal.
Grace wrote in Malayalam how someone from the uncontrollable crowd grabbed her at the mall.
Saniya’s statement talked of the security struggling to handle the big crowd at the mall and one person misbehaving with Grace and her.
“So I and my movie team were promoting our new movie ‘Saturday night’ at a mall in Calicut. The promotion events went well across all the places in Calicut and thanks to the love from people of Calicut. The event at the mall was extremely packed with people and the security was struggling to handle and maintain the crowd. After the event, I and one of my costars were leaving and some guy misbehaved with my colleauge and she didn’t even get a chance to see or react because of the rush and the crowd. After that, I also encountered a similar act of misogyny and I reacted to it in shock as you’ve watched in the video,” Saniya wrote, referring to her slapping the person.
She went on: “So I wish no one has to face this kind of unwanted trauma in their life, for violence against women there will be no consequences and actions against these misogynistic individuals.”
