Puri: The Adhara Pana ritual, offering of 100 litres of Pana (sweet drink) to the sibling deities of Jagannath Temple in specially-made terracotta pots on their chariots, was held on Thursday evening.
The terracotta pots were placed on each chariot parked near the Lion Gate of the 12th-century shrine. These reach up to the Lords’ lips.
The Pana made with milk cream, cheese, sugar, banana, camphor, nutmeg, black pepper and other such spices is offered to the deities by Patribadu, Suarabadu, Garabadu Palia Sevaka and Pujapanda Sevakas on the chariots.
After completion of the Adhara Pana ritual of the deities, the Adhara Handi are broken on the chariots by the sevaks, as an offering to the “Parshava debatas, Chandi Chamundas” and other deities.
