Admission Of Matric Pass-Out Students A Major Issue For Odisha Govt

Bhubaneswar: Although a record 97.89 per cent of students cleared the annual Matric examination in Odisha, their admission to Plus II and technical institutions remains a major concern.

The total number of available seats in Plus II, government and private ITI and Polytechnic institutions is 6,03,113. That is less than the 6,17,876 students who have passed in the Matric exam.

The number of students applying for admission will exceed 6.28 lakh as there will be CBSE and ISCE pass-out students also. So there could be a shortage of over 24,000 seats.

There is an option to conduct entrance exam for Plus II stream. But the School and Mass Education Department won’t conduct such a test in the midst of COVID-19 pandemic taking into consideration that there could be more than 6 lakh candidates.

Under such circumstances, academicians and educationists have said that the problem can be solved only if the government increases the number of seats in Plus II and technical institutes.
