COVID Spike: Closure Order For Two Markets In Bhubaneswar Extended Till July 1

Bhubaneswar: In view of aggravating COVID situation, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to keep the non-vegetarian market at Unit IV and Bapuji Nagar market here shut till July 1.

The notification issued on Saturday said that the closure order has been extended to check the possibility of further spread of the virus.

These markets were closed on June 18 for violation of COVID protocol. Retail and wholesale trading in non-veg items was banned at Unit IV till June 25.

Shops dealing with essential items and medicines can, however, continue to remain open at Bapuji Nagar.

Bhubaneswar saw a slight rise in fresh infections on Saturday with 374 people testing positive for the virus during the last 24 hours compared to 343 the previous day. A total of 496 new cases were detected on Friday.

The city has been reporting over 300 cases daily for the last 15 days.
