Bhubaneswar: After almost a month gap, the newly-introduced toy train service resumed at Nandankanan Zoological Park on Tuesday.
The service had to be suspended, barely eight days after it was flagged off following a fire mishap on October 15 when 50 people had a close shave. A short circuit was suspected to be the cause of the blaze in the moving toy train. The repair work was carried out by Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES), a Central PSU under the Ministry of Railways, which is in charge of the operation and track maintenance of the toy train at the zoo.
The eco-friendly battery-operated toy train with four bogies of 74-passenger capacity was introduced on October 8. The project was set up at a cost of Rs 3.05 crore.
The train will make six trips between 10 am and 4 pm and timings are 10 am, 11 am, 12 noon, 2 pm, 3 pm and 4 pm. It will chug for 1.65 km, covering the elephant and deer zoo, including Kanjia Lake, on the park premises. Tickets (Rs 20 for children and Rs 50 for adults per head) are issued 30 minutes prior to the ride.
