AICTE To Offer Only Hi-Tech Courses From 2020-21

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) will permit only emerging fields like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Block Chain from the academic year 2020-21, Lok Sabha was informed on Monday.

The council will also not allow new conventional disciplines with low employment potential, Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank said during Question Hour.

The HRD Minister said the AICTE will allow only new and emerging fields like AI, Internet of Things (IoT), Block Chain, Robotics, Quantum Computing, Data Sciences, Cyber Security, and 3D Printing and Design, so that students can be trained to be a part of the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative.

Responding to a question on employability, the minister said IIT students were employed in 200 out of the 500 top companies of the world.

He also said Smart India hackathons were being organised to encourage innovations so that they could act as a “funnel” for start-ups in India.
