Bhubaneswar: AIIMS Bhubaneswar will set up a dedicated Neonatal Surgical Intensive Care Unit under its of Paediatric Surgery department.
AIIMS Bhubaneswar executive director Dr Ashutosh Biswas said the new unit will cater to newborns requiring complex surgical intervention and intensive monitoring.
The facility will offer specialised pre-operative stabilisation, post-operative intensive care and co-ordinated multi-disciplinary treatment for critically-ill newborns with congenital and acquired surgical disorders, including babies referred from other hospitals, informed Dr Biswas at a press conference on Friday.
It will also strengthen postgraduate teaching, hands-on training for resident doctors and clinical research in neonatal surgery and critical care.
The Institute’s sixth convocation ceremony will be held on July 18, announced Biswas.
Union minister of State for Health & Family Welfare and Chemicals & Fertilizers Anupriya Patel will attend the ceremony as the chief guest and confer degrees on the graduating students.
Odisha Health & Family Welfare minister Mukesh Mahaling and Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha MP Aparajita Sarangi will also be present.
A total of 684 students from various academic programmes will receive degrees, and 61 gold medals will be awarded to meritorious students.
