Mumbai: A London-bound Air India flight from Mumbai was forced to turn back after passengers and crew reported a burning smell on board. The aircraft landed at Mumbai safely on Saturday.
This comes barely a day after an Ethiopian Airlines flight from Addis Ababa to Mumbai made an emergency landing at the airport. This happened at 1.42 am on Friday. Officials said that the Boeing 787 Dreamliner faced a depressurisation problem mid-air.
According to The Times of India, medical teams attended to the seven passengers after ET640 landed at Mumbai. The passengers were checked for decompression-related symptoms. One passenger required hospitalisation. It is reported that the incident occurred when the Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft was flying over the Arabian Sea.
Flightradar24 data reveals that the Ethiopian Airlines flight ET640 witnessed cabin depressurisation while cruising at 33,000 feet. The pilots executed a rapid descent to a lower altitude.
The incident comes days after five passengers and two crew members onboard an Air India flight from London fell ill on June 23. The incident occurred when the aircraft was on its way to Mumbai. Of the seven, two passengers and two cabin crew members who continued feeling unwell were rushed to the medical room for further examination after the flight landed in the city.
Safety of flights has turned into a major issue after the tragic aircrash in Ahmedabad on June 12, involving an Air India flight to Gatwick in London. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed soon after take-off from Ahmedabad, killing 241 people on board and several others on the ground.
The Black Box of this ill-fated flight is now being examined by experts in Delhi.
