New Delhi: Air India continues to be under severe scrutiny in the aftermath of the horrific Ahmedabad crash which claimed the lives of 270 people.
After the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) ordered the removal of three Air India officials from crew scheduling responsibilities following repeated and serious violations of aviation safety protocols, India’s civil aviation watchdog issued a showcause notice to the airline for violating flight duty time limitations (FDTL) norms for the crew, PTI reported quoting sources.
As per the notice, DGCA found violations of flight duty time limitations during spot checks of Air India’s Bengaluru-London flights of May 16 and 17, in which FDTL exceeded the 10-hour limit.
“During a spot check, it was observed that the Accountable Manager of Air India operated two flights from Bengaluru to London (Al-133) on May 16, 2025 and May 17, 2025, both of which exceeded the stipulated flight time limit of 10 hours,” DGCA pointed out.
“It is further noted that the Accountable Manager of Air India Ltd has failed to ensure adherence to the provisions and compliance requirements,” it added.
DGCA has asked Air India to explain within seven days why action should not be taken for these violations.
