Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday reviewed the diarrhoea situation across six districts of the state and assessed the various containment measures being implemented.
During the meeting, it was stated that the diarrhoea situation is now under control in the state, with a significant decline in new infections. Districts like Jajpur, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Kendrapada, Dhenkanal, and Keonjhar have reported a significant reduction in cases, and normalcy is gradually returning.
The Chief Minister directed officials to ensure coordinated efforts for delivering quality healthcare, particularly in hospitals and medical colleges, to maintain the improving trend.
Asking the officials to continue taking precautionary measures in areas where the risk of the disease spreading still exists, the CM also advised them to remain alert and prepared until Dussehra.
As special attention was given to the well-being of school students, Majhi asked officials to ensure educational institutions strictly follow the preventive guidelines issued by the government.
Highlighting the importance of food safety, he stressed food samples from fast food vendors and eateries must be tested, and proper sanitation must be enforced. In rural areas, he directed borewells be sanitised and water samples regularly tested to prevent contamination.
So far, a total of 3,892 patients have been admitted to different hospitals. Of them, 3,543 have recovered, while 254 are undergoing treatment.
It was also noted that the Mission Shakti department’s SHG members are actively raising awareness on diarrhoea prevention. ASHA and Anganwadi workers are also spreading information through IEC (Information, Education, and Communication) materials.
The meeting was attended among others by Deputy Chief Minister KV Singh Deo, Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Health Secretary Aswathy S, and senior officials from the Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water, Housing and Urban Development, Women and Child Development, and School and Mass Education departments.
