Amid Heatwave Alert, Mercury Crosses 35°C At 21 Places In Odisha, Titlagarh Hottest At 38°C
Bhubaneswar: At least 21 places in Odisha recorded maximum temperatures above 35 degrees Celsius in the last 24 hours, according to the regional meteorological centre here.
Titlalgarh was the hottest place in the state, recording 38 degrees Celsius, followed by Balangir (37.8), Jharsuguda (37.3) and Angul (37.1).
Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded 36.6 and 35.6 degrees Celsius respectively.
Other places that recorded temperatures over 35 degrees Celsius were Sundergarh (36), Baripada (36.5), Balasore (36), Hirakud (36.2), Sambalpur (36.9), Talcher (36), Mahisapat (36.5), Bhadrak (36), Sonepur (36.2), Boudh (35.5), Nayagarh (36.5), Bhawanipatna (35.5), Chatrapur (36), Gopalpur (35.5), Malkangiri (36).
Balangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Angul, Nayagarh and Khurda have been put on alert over possible heatwave sweeping Odisha for two days from March 16.
The temperature in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack may touch 39 and 38 degrees Celsius respectively during the period.
“Dry and hot winds blowing from the west and north-west directions are likely to push up the day temperature by 3-4 degrees Celsius in some interior pockets of the state,” Umashankar Das, a scientist at the regional IMD centre here, said.
