Cuttack: The oppressive weather conditions prevailing in Odisha are forcing authorities to take steps keeping in mind the welfare of students.

The Cuttack district administration on Thursday announced that all government and private schools, as well as Anganwadi centres, will remain closed on April 24, 25 and 27.

The order, issued by District Collector and Magistrate Dattatraya Bhausaheb Shinde, also applies to government, aided and private colleges in the district.

However, examinations will be conducted as per the existing timetable.

As per the directive, teachers will continue to attend schools and may conduct online classes to ensure completion of syllabus within the stipulated time.

Anganwadi centres have been asked to distribute dry ration to beneficiaries at home instead of providing cooked meals during the period. The maximum temperature in Cuttack on Thursday was 41.8 degrees Celsius.

Schools were earlier allowed to function under revised timings from 6.30 am to 9 am, before being shut from April 20 due to rising temperatures.

Now, the district administration has decided to extend the closure due to the worsening heatwave conditions.

Earlier in the day, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari informed that a proposal to reschedule summer vacation for educational institutions across Odisha has been sent to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).
