Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi will wind up his 3-day Delhi visit with a meeting Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday.
According to official sources, Shah will chair a meeting with Majhi at 4 pm to review implementation of three new criminal laws in the state. It will focus on the Odisha government’s preparedness to implement Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, which replaced the Indian Penal Code, the Code of Criminal Procedure, and the Indian Evidence Act, respectively, on July 1, 2024.
Majhi is likely to present the progress made by the state in aligning its legal framework with the Centre’s directives. The Ministry of Home Affairs has stressed that effective implementation of the laws will depend on coordination between central and state agencies.
This meeting also assumes significance since the BJP is deliberating on its next chief in Odisha and probable Cabinet expansion ahead of BJP national president J P Nadda’s visit to Odisha from April 10.
The CM was in Delhi to attend two-day Odisha Investors’ meet during which 13 MoUs were signed and 15 investment intents worth Rs 1,03,090 crore were received. These initiatives are expected to generate employment opportunities for around 95,915 people. The highlight of the second day was the agreement with Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) for setting up a dual-feed naphtha cracker project at Paradip, entailing an investment of Rs 58,042 crore. The state also entered into an agreement with the Indian Strategic Petroleum Reserves Ltd (ISPRL) for a crude oil storage facility at Chandikhol in Jajpur district and Petronet LNG to develop a LNG terminal at Gopalpur in Ganjam district.
These MoUs were signed in the presence of Majhi, Union ministers Hardeep Singh Puri, Dharmendra Pradhan and Jual Oram, and state Industries minister Sampad Chandra Swain.
