Anganwadi Workers Scuffle With Cops In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Hundreds of anganwadi workers staging a demonstration at Mahatma Gandhi Marg here, seeking immediate fulfillment of their nine-point charter of demands, got into a scuffle with police personnel on Tuesday.

The protestors took out a rally from Master Canteen Square and attempted to march towards Odisha Assembly raising anti-government slogans. Police personnel confronted them while they tried to force their way towards the assembly. Thereafter, a scuffle ensued between the cops and protestors.

Later, as many as 10 platoons of police force were deployed at the spot to prevent any untoward incident.

“The anganwadi workers should be extended a monthly salary of Rs 18,000 and pension of Rs 3, 000 a month. Their retirement age must also be enhanced to 65 from 60 years”, an agitator said, adding that the stir would be intensified in the days to come, if the government remained callous towards their demands.
