Bhubaneswar: Odisha is likely to witness another spell of heavy rain this month as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated the possibility of formation of a fresh low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal.
According to IMD’s North Indian Ocean Extended Range Outlook for Cyclogenesis, an upper-air cyclonic circulation is likely to develop over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of West Bengal and Odisha between July 10 and July 16.
Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the same region between July 17 and July 23.
If the system develops as projected, it could trigger another bout of rainfall to Odisha. However, the IMD is yet to issue details on the extent of its impact.
The forecast comes days after a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal intensified into a depression earlier this month, triggering widespread rainfall across Odisha.
Besides disrupting normal life, the heavy downpour led to a sharp rise in river water levels and created flood-like situations in several parts of Odisha.
