Another Man Falls Victim To Cyber Fraud In Odisha

Puri: In yet another case of cyber fraud in the state, a man belonging to a village in the district has been duped of more than Rs 2.5 lakh.

According to police sources, the victim, identified as Satyabadi Behera of Barakudi village under the Brahmagiri police limit, received a call on his mobile phone from an unknown number. The caller, who identified himself as an employee of Axis Bank, told Satyabadi that he has to update his account in the bank through Redeem App for smooth transactions in future.

Without confirming the identity of the caller or suspecting any foul play, Satybadi uploaded the application and logged in as directed by the fraudster. Soon after, Rs 2.57 lakh was debited from Satyabadi’s account in the Axis Bank.

After receiving an alert from the bank about the withdrawal of the amount through SMS, Satyabadi came to know that he had been duped. He has lodged a complaint with the Cyber Police, Puri and also sought intervention of district SP.

In cyber fraud cases in this month, a businessman of Keonjhar district was duped of a whopping Rs 2.35 crore and a visiting professor of Ravenshaw University in Cuttack lost Rs 3.99 lakh from his bank account.
