Another SBI Account Holder Duped Of Over Rs 3 Lakh By Cyber Frauds In Berhampur
Berhampur: Another account holder of State Bank of India in Odisha’s Berhampur city has fallen victim to cyber frauds and lost Rs 3.35 lakh.
The victim, Rabi Narayan Pattnaik staying in Shaktinagar of the city, had received a message on his mobile phone a few days back stating that his SBI YONO account would be blocked, if he did not update it with his PAN card number. Since YONO SBI was written at the bottom of the message, he did not suspect any foul play and clicked the link provided in the message.
Then a page looking like YONO app opened in his phone. He updated it with his PAN card number and furnished the user name and password of his YONO account. After Rabi submitted the details, he received 2 OTPs and sent those to the number mentioned in earlier message.
Soon after he received two messages from SBI mentioning that Rs 3 lakh and Rs 24,999 had been debited from his account. When he brought out a mini statement of his account, he was confirmed that Rs 3,24,999 had been withdrawn. Then he contacted the SBI branch and told the officials to block his account.
Rabi filed a complaint in this regard at Berhampur cyber police station. The police have registered a case and started investigation.
It may be noted that Rabi is third account holder of SBI who has been duped by cyber frauds in the city in the last one week. On July 26, Binod Kumar Patra of Brahmanagar had received a message on updating his net-banking with PAN card. When he sent the OTP, Rs 97,850 was debited from his account.
Similarly, Durga Prasad Desi Behera, who had received similar message from the SBI on July 21, was duped of Rs 3.25 lakh.
