Another State Red-Flags Black Fungus; Will Odisha & Others Follow?
Cases of black fungus, or Mucormycosis, are being increasingly detected among people recovering from COVID-19 in India.
Haryana classified it as a notified disease the other day. On Wednesday, Rajasthan declared black fungus as an epidemic and a notifiable disease under the Rajasthan Epidemic Act 2020.
The state’s Principal Health Secretary Akhil Arora, who issued the notification, said the step was taken to ensure integrated and coordinated treatment of black fungus and coronavirus.
Rajasthan currently has about 100 patients suffering from Mucormycosis. Before the situation gets out of hand, the government has acted pro-actively and set up a separate ward at Sawai Man Singh Hospital in Jaipur for its treatment.
Several experts believe that diabetic people are more prone to getting the black fungus infection.
States like Odisha are already on guard against this potentially deadly disease.
The first case of black fungus was detected in Odisha nine days ago, following which the state government set up a seven-member panel to examine patients and formulate guidelines for treatment of the disease.
