Cuttack: Another woman was arrested by the police in connection with the alleged trafficking of a Bangladeshi girl and forcing her into flesh trade in Odisha.
With this, the number of arrests by the Commissionerate Police in the case has gone up to four. The fourth person, identified as Sunita Das alias Didi (44) of Baripada, was arrested by Madhupatna police.
While three accused were arrested earlier, a 44-year-old woman was arrested on Friday from Baripada, Cuttack DCP Jagmohan Meena told reporters on Saturday.
He said police have evidence that the woman was involved in engaging the victim in prostitution.
It may be recalled that the alleged sex racket came into light after the Madhupatna Police rescued a 16-year-old girl from Link Road area in Cuttack on November nine. Lured with a good job, the minor was reportedly whisked away from Bangladesh capital Dhaka through Kolkata to Odisha. She was then engaged in flesh trade in Bhubaneswar. The victim had alleged that she was even gang raped in Balasore.
After several raids at multiple locations, the cops s had arrested a couple identified as Veera Gujur Choudhary (55) of Rajasthan and Jasmine (36) of Keonjhar in Odisha on November 25. Later, another person was also arrested in connection with the case.
As per sources, the couple ran the racket from a rented house in Bhubaneswar. The minor had named five agents, including two women, involved in the flesh trade. She had also mentioned their addresses and contact numbers in her statement earlier recorded by the police.
