The blockbuster movie, directed by Aditya Chopra starring Big B, SRK, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan completed 20 years on Tuesday. The movie was one of its kind with exceptional music, story, and star cast.
A strict principal who was against love, a teacher who only believed in love and six youngsters who were waiting to be struck by love, the movie struck a code with fans. But, did you know, the movie became a turning point for Big B as he kick-started his second innings in the industry with ‘Mohabbatein’?
Let us take you through ten unknown facts that you must know if you are a fan of the movie.
1. The movie introduced six newcomers, Jimmy Shergill, Shamita Shetty, Uday Chopra, Jugal Hansraj, Kim Sharma, and Preeti Jhangiani. However, Jimmy and Jugal were seen on the silver screen before, the movie relaunched them. Also, fresh playbacks were assigned for all six of them.
2. In the movie, Amitabh Bachchan was seen in an Indo-western bandhgala kurta. Senior Bachchan’s look was highly appreciated. Karan Johar had designed the outfits for Mr. Bachchan.
3. Actor Shahrukh Khan agreed to the movie before even listening to the film’s script.
4. Surprisingly, SRK and Big B, both were offered ‘Mission Kashmir’, a movie starring Hrithik Roshan, that released alongside ‘Mohabbatein’.
5. Karishma Kapoor and Kajol were offered the roles played by Shamita Shetty and Kim Sharma. However, they rejected it. On the other hand, Sameera Reddy refused the role played by Preeti Jhangiani.
6. On a similar note, Priyanka Chopra too had to reject the movie offer due to her Miss World Pageant contract. Even Sridevi was in plans to be cast opposite Amitabh Bachchan. But when she rejected the role, the character was removed from the storyline.
7. While filming the song, ‘Ankhein Khuli Ho Ya Ho Bandh’, actor Jugal Hansraj fractured his ankle. He was trying to leap over the dancers and carry Kim Sharma.
8. Rani Mukherjee who had played the role of SRK’s dead wife in ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ didn’t want to portray the role of a spirit yet again and hence rejected the role played by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
9. Shamita Shetty, sister of actress Shilpa Shetty, too made her debut in a movie alongside Shahrukh Khan. However, unlike Shilpa, Shamita was not cast opposite SRK.
10. ‘Mohabbatein’ was the first movie in which superstars Amitabh Bachchan and Shahrukh Khan acted together.
