New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday evening received a call from his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu over the situation in West Asia after Israel launched multiple attacks on Iranian targets.
PM Modi, who was briefed on Israel’s stand, called for the early restoration of peace in the region.
“Received a phone call from PM @netanyahu of Israel. He briefed me on the evolving situation. I shared India’s concerns and emphasized the need for early restoration of peace and stability in the region,” Modi posted on X.
Ironically, around the same time, a controversy erupted online after Israel shared an inaccurate map of India.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) posted a graphical world map on X, depicting the range of Iran’s missiles, and describing Iran as a ‘global threat.’
“Israel is not the end goal — it’s only the beginning. We had no other choice but to act,” IDF stated, justifying a wave of air strikes on Iranian military and nuclear sites.
Incorrect India borders
Netizens were quick to notice that the map displayed incorrect borders for India.
“The map shared by the Israel Defense Forces wrongly shows Jammu & Kashmir as part of Pakistan,” one user pointed out.
Another person urged the IDF to rectify the error, commenting, “Kindly correct India’s boundaries. Don’t make such blunders.” The demand for correction was echoed by many others.
The IDF acknowledged the oversight and clarified, “This post is an illustrative representation of the region. The map does not accurately depict borders. We apologise for any offence caused by this image.”
Concern over Israeli attack
India’s External Affairs ministry earlier expressed deep concern over Israel’s attack on Iran, and urged both countries to avoid escalatory steps.
The Indian side pointed to its “close and friendly relations with both countries” and said it was “ready to extend all possible support” to Israel and Iran.
The Indian missions in Tehran and Tel Aviv have advised Indian nationals in both countries to remain vigilant and stay safe following the Israeli air strikes.
After the call with PM Modi, Netanyahu also spoke with US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin to brief them on the situation.
Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned that Israel “must expect severe punishment” for the “crime” of attacking his country and killing several commanders and scientists.
