Ahmedabad: Most Indians are-religious minded and God-fearing.
For anyone in doubt, just check out what was found from among the debris of the plane crash near Ahmedabad’s BJ Medical college.
Bodies of most of the 241 victims on board London Gatwick-bound flight AI-171 and several others on ground were charred beyond recognition and reduced to mere skeletons. But rescuers found a copy of the Bhagavad Gita buried under the wreckage.
The all-engrossing fire, caused by 125,000 litres of fuel being burnt after the Dreamliner aircraft crashed into a hostel building of the medical college, generated heat of nearly 1000 degrees and turned everything into ashes, but not the book of sacred Hindu scripture.
The Gita was largely undamaged. Obviously, someone had the Gita close to the heart, but his/her prayers went unanswered.
Just one passenger, a British national, survived the horrific crash in the densely populated area close to the airport.
The pages of Gita appeared intact, with its text and images visible quite clearly. The cover showed some signs of damage.
“Maybe it belonged to a passenger… someone must have been reading it. That’s why it’s here. Despite the intense heat, it remained intact. Every single picture, including that of Swami Prabhupada (the founder of ISKCON) is still exactly the same,” a rescue personnel at the crash site told Aajtak.
Videos and images of the book have gone viral on social media.
