Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Wednesday apprehended ASI of Mahila police station, Berhampur, Babita Suna while allegedly accepting Rs 10,000 bribe.
According to a Vigilance release, she had demanded illegal gratification to help the complainant and his mother in a case registered at the police station in which she was the investigating officer. The ASI had threatened to arrest the complainant if her bribe demand was not met.
The entire bribe money was recovered from Suna and seized.
Simultaneous searches are currently underway at two locations linked to the ASI to ascertain whether she had accumulated assets disproportionate to her known sources of income.
A case has been registered against her under Section 7 of PC (Amendment) Act, 2018, and further investigation is underway, it added.
