B.Tech Student, Cops Among Six Caught During Ganja Raid In Odisha’s Koraput

Koraput: A 24-year-old B.Tech student and two police personnel were among six people arrested by Jeypore police during a raid on Ganja smugglers in Koraput district.

The accused were identified as Laxmikanta Mishra, a B.Tech student in Koraput, Biswanath Paraja (39), a havildar at Jeypore Sadar police station, Narendra Badanayak (32), a constable with Odisha Auxiliary Police Force (OAPF), Sonu Kumar (18) of Bihar, Rama Murty Kirsani of Visakhapatnam and Nara Hari Pujari (33) of Koraput.

According to reports, some smugglers were transporting the contraband in a Honda City car towards Jeypore on Thursday night. The car was intercepted near a bridge on Sett river by some bike-borne youths, who forcibly diverted it towards Phampuni Manakharnan forest.

However, a team from Jeypore Sadar police station reached the spot following a tip-off and managed to catch six persons.

Police searched the vehicle and seized 269.5 kg of ganja packed in 38 packets. The cost of the seized contraband is estimated to be Rs 30 lakh.

The officer in-charge of Jeypore Sadar police station, Aditya Mahakur, said they have also seized six mobiles, the Honda City car and three motorcycles from the spot.
