New Delhi: Internet sensation ‘Baba Ka Dhaba’ owner, who became famous after a YouTuber uploaded a video showing his plight, was on Thursday night admitted to Safdarjung Hospital following a suicide bid, according to police.
The medical report mentions intake of alcohol and sleeping pills as the cause of unconsciousness.
Kanta Prasad, 80, runs a roadside stall in south Delhi’s Malviya Nagar area.
After becoming famous, Prasad opened a restaurant in December. However, he had to close the eatery as costs were much higher than income.
Last year, he had filed an FIR against YouTuber Gaurav Wasan for allegedly misappropriating money which had been raised to help him. Wasan’s video showed the elderly couple working hard but not getting enough customers. People donated money after the video went viral.
In November, Prasad had told The Indian Express that he had received a cheque for Rs 2 lakh only from Wasan. He also claimed sales had not picked up post the viral video and that people came only to take selfies.
Prasad’s wife informed the police that he had been depressed for the last few days.
