Banking Services Limping Back To Normal In Fani-Hit Districts

Bhubaneswar: The banking sector, which was disrupted by cyclonic storm Fani, is limping back to normalcy in the coastal districts of Odisha.

Till Thursday, 60 out of 239 bank branches and 20 out of 273 ATMs in the worst-affected Puri district had been made operational. Similarly, 372 out of 707 bank branches and just 197 out of 1,164 ATMs in Khurda district and Bhubaneswar; 260 out of 422 bank branches and 162 out of 593 ATMs in Cuttack district; 123 out of 178 bank branches and 112 out of 196 ATMs in Jagatsinghpur district and 113 out of 144 bank branches and 105 out of 196 ATMs in Kendrapara district have been made operational.

To make the banking service more proactive, the state government has convened a special meeting of the State Level Bankers Committee.

The state government has also directed insurance companies to send their officials and representatives to the affected districts to assess the damage at the earliest.
