Mumbai: Vikrant Massey’s upcoming film ‘The Sabarmati Report’ revolves around the 2002 Sabarmati Express incident, which had a profound impact on India’s history.
A teaser from the film, that was released on Friday, showcases the actor as a fearless journalist.
In the teaser, the voice of a female journalist can also be heard and this has given rise to speculation that the character might have been inspired by veteran journalist Barkha Dutt.
“As the trailer of The Sabarmati Report featured the character of a journalist, it is possible that it was influenced by famed journalist Barkha Dutt. However, it will be announced later whether Raashi Khanna or Ridhi Dogra will portray the role of a journalist in the film,” a source was quoted as saying by India TV.
Directed by Dheeraj Sarna and produced by Shobha Kapoor, Ektaa R Kapoor, Amul V Mohan, and Anshul Mohan, ‘The Sabarmati Report’, features Vikrant Massey, Raashii Khanna, and Ridhi Dogra in lead roles.
On February 27, 2002, 59 people were charred to death when a coach of the Sabarmati Express train was set on fire at Godhra station in Gujarat. Vikrant’s ‘The Sabarmati Report’ is believed to unfold the unknown facts about the train incident.
After multiple delays, the film is slated to hit the theatres on November 15.
Earlier, the movie was scheduled to release in May 2024, but it got delayed because of CBFC certification. The release date was then postponed to August 2.
