New Delhi: The Indian cricket team will not tour Bangladesh this year. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have mutually agreed to defer the white-ball series between the two countries from August 2025 to September 2026.
India and Bangladesh were set to play three ODIs and an equal number of T20Is in Bangladesh from August 17 this year. The Government of India had advised BCCI not to go ahead with the tour, given the situation in the neighbouring country at the moment.
According to BCCI though, the decision to postpone was taken after considering the international cricketing commitments and scheduling convenience of both teams.
“This decision has been reached following discussions between the two Boards, taking into account the international cricketing commitments and scheduling convenience of both teams. The BCB looks forward to welcoming India in September 2026 for this eagerly anticipated series. Revised dates and fixtures for the tour will be announced in due course,” BCCI has said in a media release.
Relations between India and Bangladesh soured after the coup in that country in August 2024, following which prime minister Sk Hasina was forced to flee. An interim government under Muhammad Yunus has been in charge of affairs in Bangladesh since then.
The interim government, through actions and words, has moved further away from India over the last few months and India has reacted by imposing trade restrictions. Yunus has promised general elections in Bangladesh by June 2026. It remains to be seen whether the new government in power will make efforts to mend ties with India. This will be known by September 2026, when the tour is likely to happen.
