Mumbai: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly hinted at pay cuts for players if the Indian Premier League (IPL) cannot be held this year.

“Not hosting the IPL will cause losses to the tune of Rs 4,000 crore which is huge,” Ganguly told Mid Day. “If the IPL takes place, we won’t have to go in for pay cuts. We’ll manage things,” he added.

The Covid-19 pandemic brought the world to a standstill. Sport has taken a hit, too, with the 13th edition of the cash-rich T20 league being postponed indefinitely.

The BCCI is still hoping that a window can be found later this year to organize the popular league, but is unsure of any dates.

The country has been under lockdown since March 25, with the third phase due to end on May 17.

Though further relaxations will be granted, the government has hinted that the lockdown will continue beyond Sunday especially in more infected zones.
