Balasore: A man allegedly died by suicide while his wife was away at a nearby temple, praying for his long life on the occasion of Sabitra Brata in Odisha’s Balasore district on Monday.
The incident was reported from Maldapada village under Khantapada police limits.
According to sources, Padmalochan Behera, a mason, had been bedridden for the past three months following a road accident. He was the sole breadwinner of his family and had two children, a son studying in Class IX and a daughter in Class IV.
Behera reportedly hanged himself to death in his bedroom. Locals informed his wife, Jayanti, and then rushed him to Khantapada Community Health Centre (CHC), where doctors declared him dead.
Meanwhile, police have seized the body and launched an investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading to his death.
