Bengaluru: Heads have rolled in the aftermath of Wednesday’s horrible stampede outside Chinnaswamy Stadium, with the Karnataka government cracking the whip.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced the suspension of several high-ranking police officials, including the city’s police commissioner B Dayananda.
“Cubbon Park Police Station Police Inspector, Station House Master, Station House Officer, ACP, Central Division DCP, Cricket Stadium in-charge, Additional Commissioner of Police, Commissioner of Police have been suspended with immediate effect,” the chief minister said at a press conference.
Siddaramaiah also announced a one-man commission to probe lapses that resulted in the deaths of 11 young people, including teenagers, and left dozens injured.
“We have appointed Justice Michael D’Cunha, a retired judge of the high court, as a one-man commission to probe the tragedy,” the CM said.
Representatives of RCB, event managers to be arrested
The CM also said he instructed the Karnataka DGP and IGP to arrest the RCB representative, DNA event managers and KSCA members in the wake of the tragedy.
“This was an unprecedented incident in which 11 lives were lost and over 37 injured. Free treatment is being given to all the injured,” he said.
