Berhampur Mayor Boycotts OTT Launch Of Kanccha Lannka’s Webseries ‘Okha Express’; Know Why
Berhampur: Berhampur mayor Sanghamitra Dalei boycotted the official launching of Kanccha Lannka’s webseries ‘Okha Express’ on OTT platform in protest against the use of foul language and depiction of Ganjam district in a bad light.
After watching the trailer of ‘Okha Express’ screened at the beginning of the function, Dalei took a strong exception to scenes of extreme violence and criminal activities and use of foul language in the webseries. She demanded the webseries to be withdrawn from OTT platform.
The cofounder and chairman of Kanccha Lannka Akshay Kumar Parija, managing director Bibhu Prasad Rath and director of the webseries Srikant Goutam tried to convince Dalei about the content of the series. But the mayor was not convinced and left the function halfway.
Speaking to the media, Rath said use of foul language in webseries streaming on OTT platform is nothing new. It can be found in almost all series in the platform, he added.
Though ‘Okha Express’ has started streaming on OTT platform since Thursday night, its official launch was held in Berhampur as its script is based on the life and condition of migrant labourers from the district to Surat in Gujarat.
An estimated 10 lakh labourers from Ganjam work in different industries and factories in Surat. They normally communicate to Surat in Okha Express train. The series depicts their torture and exploitation by the owners of the plants where they are employed as workers.
