Bhadrak: Leaving his official vehicle aside, District Collector of Bhadrak Dilip Routrai chose to ride a bicycle from his residence to office on Wednesday, drawing attention from locals.
A senior IAS officer choosing the humble bicycle over decorated official vehicle was an unusual sight.
Speaking to reporters, Routrai said cycling helps him stay fit while reducing carbon footprint and fuel consumption.
Referring to the Fit India movement started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said cycling is a good way for achieving fitness. Since there was no tour programme scheduled for the day and he had to commute only from residence to office, he chose to cycle. The Collector attributed the decision to his focus on personal fitness and eco-friendliness.
Urging everyone to take small steps which can contribute towards a healthier lifestyle and cleaner environment, the senior bureaucrat stated he plans to continue cycling during the winter season.
