Bhubanesewar-Central MLA Faces Assault Charge By Woman

Bhubaneswar: A woman has filed a police case alleging that Bhubaneswar-Central MLA Ananta Narayan Jena assaulted her and threatened to take her life.

According to a complaint filed by the woman at Baghamari police station in Khurda district, the MLA and his associates came to her house at night on May 19 and started hurling abuses at her husband. Since no male member was present in the house, she did not open the door.

But the legislator and others accompanying him forcefully opened the door and assaulted her. Before leaving, they threatened to kill her, the complainant said.

On the basis of the complaint, the police registered a case and launched an investigation. Police have also booked two associates of Jena and 20 others in this case.

Refuting the allegations as false, Jena said he was in a hospital on the day when the alleged incident happened. He claimed that the complainant’s husband is a dreaded criminal and had attacked one of his relatives staying in Sarua Pubusahi for refusing to pay extortion amount.

On being informed, Jena and his associates rescued him from a jungle in a critical condition and admitted him to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. The hospital’s CCTV footage can confirm his presence, said Jena.
