Bhubaneswar: IndiGo temporarily halted operations in Middle East nations, including Bhubaneswar-Abu Dhabi-Bhubaneswar direct flight services, late on Monday amid escalating tensions in the region.
“In view of the evolving situation in the Middle East, our flight operations to and from Dubai, Doha, Bahrain, Dammam, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait, Madinah, Fujairah, Jeddah, Muscat, Sharjah, Riyadh, Ras AI-Khaimah and Tbilisi have been suspended at least until 1000hrs today,” the airline posted on X.
It included flights 6E 1442 (Bhubaneswar to Abu Dhabi) and 6E 1441 (Abu Dhabi to Bhubaneswar). Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi had inaugurated the flight services to Abu Dhabi from the Biju Patnaik International Airport on June 12.
The announcement came as several Middle Eastern nations announced temporary closure of their airspaces as Iran launched a military attack on Al Udeid air base in Qatar late Monday.
Later this morning, the airline said it is cautiously resuming flight operations to the Middle East, assuring passengers that it is taking all necessary precautions to ensure safety. “As airports across the Middle East gradually reopen, we are prudently and progressively resuming operations on these routes. We continue to monitor the situation closely and are fully considering the safest available flight paths to ensure secure and seamless travel. Please stay updated via our mobile app or website Thank you for your continued understanding and trust,” it said.
Almost all of the major airline services operating in India, including IndiGo, Air India, Air India Express, and global airlines such as Virgin Australia, were hit last night as Iran, in an retaliatory act, launched attacks on US base in Qatar after America joined Israel in war against Tehran and attacked its nuclear sites.
Meanwhile, Israel and Iran have reportedly agreed to the US-proposed ceasefire in the conflict.
