Bhubaneswar: Good news for Odisha flyers! The Airport Authority of India (AAI) has decided to introduce Bhubaneswar-Ahmedabad-Bhubaneswar direct flight from September 1.

“IndiGo airline will begin its operations between Bhubaneswar and Ahmedabad within a few days. We have also written to IndiGo and Air Asia for starting operations between Bhubaneswar and Pune on the basis of demand on these routes,” said Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) Director Suresh Chandra Hota.

According to official sources, the flight will leave the airport in Bhubaneswar at 11.50 AM and arrive in Ahmedabad at 2.10 PM. Another flight will leave Ahmedabad at 8. 55 AM and arrive in Bhubaneswar at 11. 20 AM.

The flight would be available thrice a week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Meanwhile, AAI has announced its winter schedule plan in which the total number of daily flights operations at the Biju Patnaik International Airport will increase to 68 from 42 at present. Direct flight from Bhubaneswar to Coimbatore would also be introduced.

Besides, new flights would be started from Bhubaneswar to Raipur, Rourkela and Jharsuguda under the UDAN scheme. There would be 12 daily flights from Bhubaneswar to New Delhi, 17 to Kolkata, 15 to Bengaluru, five each to Hyderabad, Mumbai and Chennai, two flights each to Ahmedabad and Raipur and one flight each to Vizag, Coimbatore, Jharsuguda, Rourkela and Kuala Lumpur under the winter schedule.

UDAN is a Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) launched by the Centre which aims to make unserved/underserved airports in small cities operational with regular flights, and offer subsidized airfares to encourage more people to fly at affordable fare.
