Bhubaneswar: In the wake of the recent Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar is set to conduct a comprehensive mock drill on June 30 to assess its emergency preparedness and response mechanisms in case of disasters.
The move follows a directive issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation’s (DGCA) to all airports across the country to conduct full-scale rehearsals in the aftermath of a recent Air India plane crash.
Officials said that the exercise will simulate a real-time aircraft emergency scenario and test the airport’s ability to respond swiftly and effectively.
As per Bhubaneswar Airport Director, the drill will see active participation from various key agencies, including personnel from Civil Aviation, local police, medical teams, and fire services. The objective is to evaluate coordination among all stakeholders and ensure readiness in the event of an actual emergency.
With the growing volume of air traffic and recent incidents raising safety concerns, the DGCA’s move is seen as a proactive step to ensure that all airports are equipped to handle emergencies with minimum chaos and maximum efficiency.
The mock drill will simulate a real-time aircraft emergency scenario, designed to test the airport’s response and preparedness in the event of an actual emergency. By simulating such a scenario, the airport aims to evaluate the coordination and communication among the various stakeholders involved in emergency response.
The exercise is aimed to identify any gaps in preparedness and fine-tune protocols to ensure a swift and effective response in case of an emergency.
