Jharsuguda: Vedanta Aluminium has supported the extensive renovation of the old District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Odisha’s Jharsuguda, which was reopened this week as a new Satellite Hospital in the presence of several leaders and community members.
On the occasion, Vedanta also donated 25 hospital beds to help enhance patient care capacity and support the government hospital in delivering effective healthcare services.
The opening of the Satellite Hospital, located at Mangal Bazaar, Jharsuguda, marks a significant step toward expanding accessible and reliable healthcare for local residents. Vedanta has committed to the long-term support of the hospital to ensure its sustained growth and operational effectiveness. This comes as a significant commitment by the company towards strengthening rural health infrastructure and medical services, and will help ensure consistent, high-quality healthcare in the region. Vedanta Aluminium’s continued support thus goes beyond meeting infrastructural requirements – it reflects a strategic and sustained effort to support public health systems in underserved areas, a company press release said on Saturday.
Sharing his views, Sunil Gupta, Chief Operating Officer – Vedanta Aluminium said, “At Vedanta, we believe that access to quality healthcare is a cornerstone of community development. Our long-term commitment to the Satellite Hospital, Jharsuguda, is part of our larger endeavour to strengthen the region’s healthcare infrastructure and ensure that essential medical services are within reach of every individual. Through such collaborative efforts with the Jharsuguda district administration, we aim to improve public health outcomes and create a positive, lasting impact in the region.”
Odisha Health & Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling appreciated the initiative and said, “Vedanta Aluminium’s commitment to reopening and strengthening the Satellite Hospital in Jharsuguda exemplifies the vital role of corporate partnerships in enhancing public healthcare.
Their sustained support will significantly improve access to quality medical services for the community. This collaboration sets a strong precedent for building a healthier Odisha through shared responsibility and collective action.”
Jharsuguda MLA Tankadhar Tripathy, who graced the occasion, lauded the efforts of Vedanta Aluminium and stated, “Vedanta Aluminium has been a committed partner in the growth and development of Jharsuguda. Their contribution to the District Satellite Hospital will significantly enhance the quality of patient care. Beyond this, their efforts – from setting up the diagnostic centre to operating mobile health services – are helping bridge critical gaps in rural and urban healthcare access.”
District Collector of Jharsuguda, Ms. Aboli Sunil Naravane, also highlighted the significance of the initiative, stating, “This support from Vedanta Aluminium will go a long way in boosting the infrastructure of our district healthcare services. The additional beds will help the hospital better manage patient load, especially during peak periods. We deeply value Vedanta’s proactive involvement in enhancing healthcare access across the district.”
The renovation of the Satellite Hospital is part of a series of impactful healthcare initiatives undertaken by Vedanta Aluminium in Jharsuguda. Previously, Vedanta has set up an advanced Diagnostic Centre in the vicinity of the town, where residents can avail cutting-edge medical tests and high-end diagnostics at government-approved rates, ensuring that quality healthcare services are both accessible and affordable. Additionally, Vedanta operates a well-equipped Mobile Health Unit (MHU) supported by expert medical staff, which travels daily across remote villages in Jharsuguda, providing essential medical consultations, diagnostics, and free medicines to underserved communities.
Further strengthening its community health efforts, Vedanta Aluminium has partnered with the Government of India’s Nikshay Mitra initiative through which the company is distributing nutrition kits to tuberculosis (TB) patients, supporting their recovery and promoting better health outcomes.
